ecoLearn Methodology

We deliver Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) experiences and outcomes using our experiences-based Content Oriented Methodology (ecoLearn). Our methodology allows teachers to deliver varying experiences of social, scientific, and technological topics with carefully selected contexts.

These contexts provide intertwining experiences through interdisciplinary learning across subjects such as literacy, numeracy, science, and history. Our methodology offers an excellent opportunity to be flexible and broaden the scope of experiences while giving due consideration to parents' wishes and local considerations.

This is my third fantastic year at Qalam Academy, I started in S1, I feel as though I am reaching my full potential. All of my teachers have helped me accomplish this. I get to read my salaah everyday which is another benefit. I came to this school so that I am in a safe Islamic environment.

As the quality assurance adviser for Al Qalam, I have the privilege of visiting regularly to see the work in classes. My role involves advising staff on their next steps to further improve learning and teaching. I have always been hugely impressed at the warm welcome I receive. Staff show a real willingness to improve their practice and they regularly seek advice which confirms their commitment to doing their best for every child. I work with staff on the improvement plan and again they really work effectively to ensure that improvements are being taken forward at pace. I see firsthand how happy, settled and secure the children and young people are. They are cared for by staff who have formed trusting and positive relationships with all pupils. I particularly like the recent focus on outdoor learning using sports pitches and forest grounds. This is also enhanced by trips further afield. The small class sizes ensure every child receives a high level of support. It is always a pleasure to visit the school and see highly professional staff at work. The school’s strong focus on values led practice results in a learning environment that is calm, caring, friendly and respectful. There is a real family ethos. I really enjoy working with Al Qalam pupils and staff and very much feel part of the team
