Curriculum

We delivery Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) experiences and outcomes using our experiences based Content Oriented Methodology (ecoLearn). Our methodology allows teachers to deliver varying experiences of social, scientific and technological topics with a carefully selected context. These contexts provide intertwining experiences through interdisciplinary learning across subjects such as literacy, numeracy, science and history.
Our methodology offers an excellent opportunity to be flexible and broaden the scope of experiences while also giving due considerations to parents wishes and local considerations. Qalam Academy Education Services offers a full range of learning opportunities to our students from Primary 1 to Qualifications (NAT5/Highers).
Lower Primary (P1-4)
The transition to primary 1 is focused on settling the new pupils and build their confidence of working independently. Our caring and nurturing staff make extra effort to personalise their space.  Pupils find the atmosphere at Al-Qalam friendly and homely, with upper primary pupils ensuring they are well looked after and guided.
Upper Primary (P5-7)
As pupils move to upper primary, Al-Qalam school offers them opportunities to explore more technical topics, deep dive into their experiences and express them through art. These are visible across the school on display boards.
Secondary School (S1/S2)
A Broad general education (BGE) curriculum provides the foundation our pupils need to enhance their learning experiences on English, Maths, Science, Social Subjects and Modern Languages. This is an important stage during which students develop their understanding of subjects of their choices.
Flexible Learning (NAT5 Yr1/2, Highers)
Following completion of Secondary school, students then focus on specific subjects of their choices. Qalam Academy offers a subject based learning that prepares students for Qualifications. For two years (Yr1/2) Nat5 units from each subject of their choice is delivered to build a sound foundation towards preparing for NAT5 and Highers exams. Students can opt to appear in 8 subjects in NAT5 and 6 Subjects in Highers. Counselling session and learning pathway event such as Road2Oxford gives students encouragement to excel in their exam and have high ambitions for their future.
Feedback from parents
>>>>>The quality of staff is of very high standard, which is always demonstrated through parents meetings and reports. It is very evident that they know my children well and all their strengths and areas of development. It is wonderful the way in which the curriculum is delivered and the methodologies used and extended to Islamic Studies and environment, including the Qur'an and Arabic.

>>>>>At Al-Qalam school, the small class size allows teachers to get to know each child really well and have more time with them. As a result of this the children gain great confidence and ability in their studies. They are also encouraged to take part in saying duas, and getting involved in the school council and annual days.

>>>>>We are very happy and satisfied with AlQalam Glasgow for providing quality education based on Curriculum for excellence in conjunction with Islamic values. Our children love being there and we highly recommend this school.
